A whole day of testing and writing. It’s hard work, but I enjoy it. It makes me feel creative again, which I feel less and less as I spend more and more time commissioning and meeting.
It spurred me into action tonight, too. I came home and made a quick dinner so I’d have time to sit down with the iBook and work on the book. Another couple of thousand words, all told, which knocks me a couple of percent closer to this month’s 50,000 word goal.
But I want to have long uninterrupted days of novel writing like I did last week, when I could get up in the morning and sit down in front of the keyboard and type, with the story worked out in my head and flowing smoothly. Nibbling at it piecemeal doesn’t feel like it’s achieving much, and at this time of night I’m too tired to keep my mind on the job in hand.
Hmmm.
Grabbed a lunchtime curry with Three Counties Neil, arranged last week after we bumped into each other a fortnight ago. I’m so predictable. I had the same as I always do, in spite of the fact I was momentarily distracted by the menu’s new entry immediately below.
Neil sniggered when I told the waitress I’d like to have pumpkin balls.
We ate slowly and spoke quickly and were both late back to the office, but it was good to see him again after so long. As usual we finished up with promises not to leave it so long before we do it again, but no firm plans were made, so it’ll probably end up being another couple of months when we’ll both have a whole new batch of news to be told.
So, a good day all in all.
Oh, and the Central Line was working again after two and a bit months of being closed. Mixed feelings. On the one hand it makes it easier to get to work. On the other, it’s a nasty cramped line that I didn’t miss.
