Dinner with the ladies last night. We went to a tiny little Portuguese cafe in Seven Dials. There were only six or seven tables, and we ended up sharing with a Spanish guy, who are the most glorious smelling chocolate cake with a small glass of port as we tucked into enormous main courses - pork and shellfish for the ladies, vegetarian lasagne for me.

It was very friendly. Plenty of smilie staff, and even the health inspectors who came in seemed to be quite happy to be there, probably fairly sure that they were going to have an easy job on their hands.

The vegetarian selection was almost as good as that for the carnivores and the wine was cold and crisp and perfectly priced. In fact, it was all pretty good value for money. It would have been a lot as a greasy spoon, but the ‘cafe’ monikker is really only true in relation to its size, not its style or servings.

In all, highly recommended. It’s called Canela, and it’s found on Earlham Street, and online here.

Thanks for that recommendation. I’ve always enjoyed the restaurants you’ve mentioned (and we’ve subsequently tried).
