Le Hussard sur le Toit
We watched Le Hussard sur le Toit this evening. With subtitles, although I was quite pleased about how much of it I could follow in French.
It was a little disappointing, really. It has a good twist at the end, and the scenes of Provence being wiped out by cholera are graphic and particularly shocking at times, which probably means they are fairly realistic, but I was hoping for more impressive scenery. They really didn’t make the best use of the Provencal countryside, which would have fit so well into widescreen.
I’m thinking five out of ten. Probably not one to watch again, in spite of the magnificent Mme Binoche.
