Strange piece on The Times web site… seemingly unprompted it’s produced a list of what kind of jobs kids can and cannot do.
Nobody under 16, or over 16 but in full-time education can work in a personal care or residential home, but if you’re over 13 you can work in a ‘private residential setting’. Nobody under 16 can have a job where they’d be ‘exposed to pornographic material’, which presumably rules out working in a newsagents shop, but they can deliver newspapers (and presumably magazines) if they are at least 13. They can’t work with chemical agents, but they can work in a ‘hairdressing salon’, where presumably they’d come into contact with peroxide and a whole gamut of other chemicals. They can’t serve alcohol, but they can work in a cafe or a restaurant, so what happens to the after dinner liqueurs?
