50,000 poppies

It’s on days like this that I can quite forget my mild dislike of London. The sun is bleaching the colour out of the streets, and the fish on the market stall are stinking to high heaven as they sweat on a bed of ice, but everyone is smiling and weaving their way around the tourists.

Why? Kenzo has filled the east plaza at Covent Garden with 50,000 poppies. It is a blinding sea of red that in three days will have disappeared, and it’s enough to make me wish I’d brought along my better camera. As I travel everywhere with a little happy snapper, though, I squeezed off a dozen of so shots at lunchtime, of which these are my favourites.
