(above) Our cell at Hostel Celica, the former prison in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Each cell is decorated differently by local artists; at 1pm each day, a tour of the building lets visitors view the art in each cell through the bars of your door. Notice the lack of curtains on the barred window. Despite the hard wooden beds, I had two of my best nights’ sleep in ages here.

(above) The Triple Bridges in Ljubljana are probably the city’s main sight, which is surprising as nobody has ever heard of them. Ljubljana is a very small city; this is pretty much the centre, and the start of a long street of bars that fills up on warm spring evenings.

(above) Cute bar sign in Ljubljana. One of several cat-themed signs in the city.

(above) Lake Bled has been a tourist resort for years, so can get very busy during the summer season. Fortunately, visiting it in the springtime we had much of it to ourselves. The church in the middle is on its own small island and was built in 1111, while the mountains in the background are the Julian Alps, which separate Slovenia from Austria.
