New blogs

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Ooh, look - two new MacUser people blogs (here and here), both using the excellent Mindsay, which allows you to post using iChat.

I wish you could post to Movable Type that way, as it’s far easier than logging in and typing your entry into a series of windows.

I’ve done a hunt for posting to Movable Type by email and it looks far too tricky to attempt in an evening. Instead, then, I’ve started work on a news parsing site to host on morningnews.co.uk.

Nothing like postponing important jobs until they’re not so tircky, eh?

If you liked that post, then try these...

Banned from our nation’s schools on November 28th, 2006

I'm an Amazonian on November 30th, 2007

Sounds like you’re studying for an important exam - it’s the very same syndrome.

  2. Ian Betteridge Says:

Erk! No RSS! How am I supposed to read them???

  3. Sean Corfield Says:

I’m with Ian on this - how can anyone consider using a blogging system that doesn’t publish RSS?

  4. kev Says:

Can someone explain what RSS is please?

  5. Nik Says:

Sure, Kev. Depending on how geeky you want to be, RSS can stand for either Rich Site Summary or Really Simple Syndication. It’s a way of stripping out all of the formatting data from a site and presenting just the content and links so that it can be read by a news aggregator, which basically puts all of the blogs and news sites you regularly read in the same place.

The RSS feed for this site is at http://www.nik.co.uk/index.rdf if you want to take a look. It’s generated automatically by Movable Type.

  6. Scott Says:

    Nik,

If you don’t like logging in to MT to post, have you considered using a blogging client?

On Windows, I use Zempt (http://www.zempt.com/). I hear that for Mac OSX users, ecto (http://www.kung-foo.tv/ecto/) is the dog’s wotsits.

how can anyone consider using a blogging system that doesn’t publish RSS?

…..because it’s mine not yours and not everybody uses an aggregator (me for one)
